×A father, a leader, and an architect, Jose embodies what it means to live one’s craft. A story-teller by nature, Jose brings a uniquely innovative perspective to the projects designed by Gurrimatute, which helps our designs embody our clients’ visions and values.
As Principal/Owner of Gurri Matute PA, Jose acts as both Principal-in-Charge and Architect-of-Record on most of the firm’s projects. With over 35+ years of experience working as an architect, Jose has accumulated a vast wealth of knowledge in everything related to building construction and design. He is a Florida Licensed Architect, a Registered Interior Designer, a Certified General Contractor, and a LEED AP Design Professional. Jose is also a member of the National Fire Protection Association, and has received specialized training on NFPA 101 Life Safety Design (Occupancies).
A Venezuelan by birth – and an American by choice – Jose immigrated to the U.S. when he was 17, and attended the University of Houston’s College of Architecture, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Architecture in 1984.
When he’s not directing a new construction project, or mentoring our junior architects about their designs, Jose loves nothing more than to spend time with his three kids, wife and dogs. He is an avid marathon runner, a talented tenor vocalist, and a great cook. His thoughts on life: “create beautiful things, regardless of approbation.”
