Gurri Matute PA Recognized at AIA Miami Design Awards GalaNov 15, 2015
When we took on the project, the Historic Hampton House Motel had fallen into disrepair after decades of neglect. Through our preservation and restoration efforts, we were able to convert this structure from a dilapidated Motel into a fully updated and functioning community cultural center. Historically, the Hampton House Motel was frequented by prominent African American figures of the 1950’s and 1960’s, it’s most notable guests included Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and Muhammad Ali. Thanks to the collaborative effort between the design team, our client, Miami Dade County, and the Historic Hampton House Community Trust, Inc., we were able to help preserve this important piece of history.
